Christopher Wyant is purposely trying to confound your expectations. Son of a Pentecostal preacher, Wyant dons overalls and wire-rimmed glasses and calls himself Hayseed. The musical foundations for his songs lean heavily on pure, unadulterated, acoustic, old-time music. Yet, upon closer inspection, you find that the Kentuckian with the potent pipes is influenced by Shelley as much as by Grandpa Jones. His reflections of modern life have a strong metaphysical bent, concentrating on notions that are more spiritual than religious, and more archetypical than specific. Even the instrumental interlude, called "Voices" oddly enough, treads a line between American old-time and European classical. Helped by a solid group of pickers and singers (including Lucinda Williams), Hayseed blazes a provactive trail." ~ Marc Greilsamer / Amazon.com Track listing: Cold Feet Wild Horses Falls The Shadows God-Shaped Hole Father's Lament Voices Melissa Between The Lines Walk This Earth (w/Joy Lynn White) Origin Of The Snake Precious Memories (w/Lucinda Williams) Credo (w/Lucinda Williams)
Hayseed has released his sophomore album In Other Words... This time out, Hayseed has put down his own pen, and instead released an album of songs by other writers and artists. This had Hayseed's fans of the stellar melic nervous, as it was feared the songs wouldn't possibly live up to his own. Fans of Hayseed and melic can breathe easy, In Other Words... is an outstanding collection of songs that are more than worthy of Hayseed's great talent, and he proves himself an excellent interpreter of other people's songs. As on melic, slide guitar, acoustic guitar, mandolin, fiddle and banjo are the predominant instruments. In Other Words... Hayseed has rounded up an outstanding collection of songs written by other artists, and officially put the stellar Hayseed stamp of approval on them, with this fabulous CD of highly intelligent, old time, rustic country music. ~ AnnMarie Harrington / TakeCountryBack.com Track listing: Outta Line There Is A Light (w/Joy Lynn White) 98.6 degrees Irah June Farther Along (w/Emmylou Harris) Ring The Bell I Walk Slow Old-Time Preacher Man Too Much To Gain To Lose (w/Joy Lynn White) When Country Singers Were Ugly Falling Off The Face Of The World
